Lunch-and-Learn Sessions to Debut in January

The NCR chapter is partnering with Sustainable Design Consulting to introduce a series of three 1-1/4 hour presentations that will look at a range of issues, opportunities, and challenges involved in implementing green measures and gaining LEED certification for existing facilities.
The first session will orient participants to many of the overriding issues, practices, terms, and tools of the greening process. The second session will provide a brief orientation to the LEED for Existing Buildings - Operations and Maintenance (LEED EB O&M) rating system. The third will be a detailed look at the Policies and Plans that must be structured, implemented, and documented for a successful LEED EB Certification. Whether new to the LEED Certification process, or just wanting an understanding of the measures used in greening existing buildings, this program will provide a solid introductory foundation. Learning objectives are as follows. Participants will learn: Greening Your Facility: Information for Leaders (January 19) �What are the major environmental, scientific and economic drivers generating interest in the greening of facilities �Introductory knowledge of key tools, roles, and sources of information �Issues to address in implementing the process of greening an existing facility Greening Your Facility: LEED EB O&M (January 26) �A broad understanding of what USGBC, GBCI, LEED, and LEED EB O&M are �An understanding of how the LEED-EB O&M 2009 system is organized �An orientation of how LEEB EB implementation works Greening Your Facility:LEED EB O&M Policies and Plans (February 2) �Introductory understanding of greening operations and LEED EB O&M Policies �Understanding the difference between a LEED EB O&M Policy and a Plan �Understanding how LEED EB O&M Plans work and what they cover �Understanding how LEED EB O&M is documented All sessions take place at the offices of Sustainable Design Consulting, 1611 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC, from 12:00 - 1:15 pm. The location is convenient to the Dupont Circle Metro station. Lunch is included in the registration fee. Individuals may register for one, two or all three of the lunch-and-learn sessions. Registration for each, individual session is $45, or register for the series of three lunch-and-learn sessions for $125.
