Greenbuild Scholarships

USGBC has announced an opportunity for local chapters to provide scholarships for Greenbuild 2009 to low-income individuals in our region. A total of four scholarships will be awarded nation-wide.
A major goal of the USGBC strategic plan is to "directly advance social equity." To this end, USGBC will award four need-based scholarships for full conference registration to Greenbuild 2009 in Phoenix.
Desired outcomes:
* Engage popoulations that are currently under-represented in the green building industry
* Provide an opportunity to attend Greenbuild to individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend in order to help individuals network within the industry
* Introduce the recipients to the green building network in their local area through particiaption and relationshiip in the local USGBC chapter.
Scholarship Details
* Scholarship recipients will attend a full-conference registration package, including a travel and lodging stipend to attend Greenbuildin Phoenix, AZ on November 11-13.
* Recipients will also receive selected access to USGBC educational programming and resources to continue to expand their green buildding knowledge after the conference.
* WScholarship recipients will also have the ability to develop a closer relationship with the local chapter.
Selection of Scholarship Recipients
These requirements enable USGBC to provide scholarships to individuals from groups currently
underrepresented in the green building industry. Recipients must meet both of the
requirements below.
1. Recipients must come from low�income households
a. USGBC defines low�income as household income levels near or below twice the federal poverty
line as determined by the United States government.
2. Recipients must also come from at least one of the following populations:
a. Age: 18�25 years old or 55 years and older
b. Racial or Ethnic Minority Groups
c. Females
d. Persons with Disabilities
e. Emerging Green Building Audiences
i. Labor: Members, employees and officials
ii. Municipal Government: Employees and officials
iii. State Government: Employees and officials
iv. Federal Government: Employees and officials
v. Mentoring Programs: Students (over 18) and employees
vi. Secondary School: Students (over 18), faculty, administration and staff
vii. Vocational Technology School: students (over 18), faculty, administration
and staff
viii. Community College: Students (over 18), faculty, administration and staff
ix. Higher Ed (4�year+ institutions): Students (over 18), faculty,
administration and staff
x. Facilities Operations/Maintenance: Students (over 18) and employees
xi. Residential/Homes: Construction and design professionals
xii. International: Green building industry professionals
xiii. USGBC Student Groups: Members, advisors

Scholarship applications must arrive at USGBC's office by September 30, 2009.
