Our Evening with Joel Makower
by Tom Mawson
Joel Makower, nationally-recognized author and sustainable business consultant, presented an entertaining and engaging overview of marketiing and positioning in the new green economy at the chapter's networking event on May 13. The program was entitled, "Strategies for the Green Economy: an Evening with Joel Mackower."
The beautiful Hotel Monaco in Washington, DC, hosted the event. Parking and traffic were a challenge as the Capitals were preparing for game 7 of their series with the Pittsburgh Penguins across the street at Verizon Center.
Dubbed "the guru of green business practices" by The Associated Press, Joel Makower has been advising start-ups and Fortune 50 giants for more than two decades. His latest book, "Strategies for the Green Economy," distills his experience and offers insights and inspiration for understanding and untangling the complexities of operating in the "green" world.
Through real-life stories and first-hand experiences, Makower raised complicated, fascinating, and resonant questions about the realities of greening businesses today.
Starting with the question: what constitutes a "good enough" green company? Mr. Makower then challenged the audience to determine how and when their companies should lead the market and when to follow it. Makower's engaging, pragmatic, and readable approach in the book helps show the way.
After the presentation, Makower signed dozens of copies of his book. For more info about Joel Makower, go to: www.makower.com.
