Dell and Goodwill Launch Computer Recycling Program in Region

by Tom Mawson, Executive Director

Dell Computers and Goodwill have announced a new joint drop-off program to recycle used computers.

The program is called "Reconnect." It is available to all residents in Virginia and the District of Columbia metro area. The program is supported by Goodwill of Greater Washington.

Reconnect offers consumers free recycling of any brand of computer equipment in any condition. Consumers can find drop-off locations at:

The goal of the program is to divert more than 2.7 million pounds of used computers and computer equipment from landfills during the next year. Reconnect also hopes to create job opportunities for individuals who have barriers to employment or independence.

"Dell wants to make computer recycling easy, convenient and free for any consumer, and Reconnect is an important program that helps make that possible," says Joe Strathman, head of product recycling services for Dell. He adds: "This program is a win on all fronts; it benefits the environment, the community and consumers."
