Member Spotlight: Ginny Dyson

PROFESSIONAL BIO: Ginny Dyson, IIDA, LEED AP BD+C, has been an active member of the design community in Washington, DC since 1985. Since 1999, Ginny has had a professional focus on product sustainability and creating green buildings. In 2003, she was elected to the first USGBC-NCR board and served a 3-year term that included membership, programs, and fundraising responsibilities.

Ginny joined AECOM Design in August 2003 and works from the National Capital Office as a Sustainability and LEED Specialist. She earned her bachelor's degree from LSU's College of Design, School of Architecture, and is a native of Northern Virginia.

Why did you decide to join the USGBC-NCR Chapter?

I was part of the founding board that helped to establish the chapter by developing programs and fundraising as the green building community was just getting organized in 2000.

Describe your role with the Programs Committee.

I support the Programs Committee through event planning which can be anything from content development to execution and includes venue research, catering, music, award programs, and dozens of details that go into successful event planning.

What do you enjoy most about your membership with the USGBC-NCR Chapter?

Professional development and a connection to a great network of green peers.

I like our GreenScene and our GreenLearn events, but the Green Tie Affair is a special favorite.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests

Movies, reading, and excursions that involve friends, family, discoveries, and a change of scenery.
