The Ninth Annual A Midsummer Night's Green & Awards of Excellence

July 21, 2011 - Exemplary projects, firms and individuals were honored last night as winners of the 2011 Awards of Excellence by the U.S. Green Building Council National Capital Region Chapter (USGBC-NCR) at the ninth annual A Midsummer Night's Green event in Washington, DC. 'These awards celebrate individuals and firms for their leadership and commitment to the green building movement,' said Emily Zimmerman, Executive Director of USGBC-NCR, 'and they recognize projects that are pushing the envelope and creating a more vibrant and sustainable National Capital Region.'

Three awards were given to individuals and firms who are inspiring the local green building community:

  • USGBC-NCR Board Member of the Year - Laura Schonfeld, LEED AP ID+C, LEED Project Manager, HITT Contracting, Inc
  • USGBC-NCR Member of the Year - Eugenia Gregorio, LEED AP BD+C, Sustainability Manager, The Tower Companies
  • USGBC-NCR Member Firm of the Year - AtSite
Six awards were given to projects in the National Capital Region that exemplify green building practices and principles:
  • Project of the Year Core & Shell - PNC Place - submitted by Gensler
  • Project of the Year Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance - World Wildlife Fund Headquarters - submitted by Envision Design
  • Project of the Year Commercial Interiors - World Wildlife Fund 1st Floor North - submitted by Envision Design
  • Project of the Year Neighborhood Development - Constitution Square - submitted by HOK
  • Project of the Year New Construction - Walter Reed National Military Medical Center - submitted by Clark/Balfour Beatty, JV, A Joint Venture
  • Project of the Year Schools - Eastern High School - submitted by Fanning/Howey Associates, Inc.
The event which took place at the National Museum of Women in the Arts was sponsored by EAI, EMO Energy Solutions, GHT Limited, Boland, Clark Construction, DBI Architects, Hickok Cole, Marion Construction, Sustainable Building Partners, LLC, Vanderweil Engineers, Workspaces LLC and Kimball Office. More than 300 green building professionals were in attendance to network with and congratulate their peers.
