The Emerging Professionals (EP) is recruiting volunteer mentors to partner with the National Building Museum (NBM) to take part in the NBM's Design Apprenticeship Program (DAP) for Fall 2010. DAP is a design mentor program, focusing on introductory design projects for local DC middle school students. The students learn about building and designing simple objects (furniture, planters, park benches, etc) as a base for developing further design skills. Mentors will assist students with design challenges, teach students to work with different materials, as well as helping students to assess and manage the parameters of the project. Mentors will work with local youth (ages 9 to 13 years old) interested in exploring and learning about different design professions and skills. Mentors skill set can range from experience in undergraduate design-related courses to seasoned design professionals. Dates: Saturdays on: October 16, October 23, October 30, November 6, November 13, and November 20th.* Time: 9:30 AM - 3:15 PM * Volunteers are encouraged but not required to volunteer at least every other weekend for consistency with the students..
